PCAT® Scoring Information

The different facets of the scoring component can be confusing, but we have broken down the entire process so that you can truly understand what happens to your score from the time you take the test to the time you get it and how it is read. We want you to know all there is about the elusive score and what it means to you.

How Is The PCAT® Scored?

Five separate scores are derived from the PCAT®, one for each of the five multiple-choice subtests. These five scores are reported along with the percentile rank for each of multiple choice tests. Each score that you achieve on the multiple-choice sections is based on the number of questions you answer correctly. There is no penalty for wrong answers or guessing. The Writing subtest scores are displayed as a single score on a scale of 0 to 5.0.

How Are The Scores Reported?

The scaled scores for the multiple-choice subtests range from 200 to 600. The five subtest scaled scores are based on the number of core items correct and are calculated separately for each subtest. There is no passing or failing score set by Harcourt Assessment for the PCAT®.

The percentile ranks are comparable across subtests because they are based on performance relative to the norm group. The Composite percentile rank is calculated independently of the five multiple-choice subtest scores. A percentile rank indicates the percentage of examinees from the norm group who received a scaled score lower than a given score.

When Will I Receive My Scores From The PCAT®?

Approximately 6 weeks after the test date, you will be sent a personal score report via regular mail. Your official transcript will also be sent to the institution stated on your application. Pharmacy schools will only accept official transcripts. Scores will not be available over the phone or faxed. Your most recent PCAT® score and any PCAT® scores that you earned within the previous five years will also be reported on your official transcript. Scores more than five years old will not be reported.

Can I Retake The PCAT®?

The application procedure for retaking the PCAT® is identical to that for the original testing. You are eligible to take the PCAT® five times. However, It may be beneficial to discuss your decision with your premedical advisor.
